Job Description
Overview Perform routine maintenance requirements on a fleet of tugs and barges as directed. Perform inspections of vessels for repair & maintenance standards and procedures. Perform repair and maintenance work on vessels as required. Work with company mechanics as needed. Paint tugs and barges as needed. You will be required to receive emergency repair calls after hours and on weekends. Travel may be involved on certain projects. Other terms and conditions of employment are described in the Employee Manual, a copy of which will be provided to you upon acceptance of employment. Responsibilities Repair marine equipment on site under adverse conditions at all hours. Required to work aboard boats and barges using winches and mechanical tools for repairs. Painting equipment and tools. Communicate with others using courtesy, tact, and good judgment. Maintain the confidentiality of all sensitive communications. Perform related duties as assigned by the Port Engineer. Qualifications Knowledge of the oil transportation and maritime industry. Knowledge of tug and barge maintenance systems and equipment. Ability to repair marine equipment on site under adverse conditions at all hours. Ability to deal with others using courtesy, tact, and good judgment. Maintain the confidentiality of all sensitive communications. Ability to understand and execute complex oral and written instructions. Ability to work independently with minimal or no guidance. Ability to get along with office staff and vessel crewmembers. Must be physically fit enough to board barges and tugs at sea and in port in all weather conditions. Must be able to read, speak, write, type, and understand English in person and over the telephone. Must possess a valid California State drivers' license. Must pass a pre-employment drug & alcohol screening. Experience in maintaining tugs and barges a plus. Merchant Mariner's Document, STCW 95. To be completed within 1 year of being hired. HAZWOPER (including Incident Command System) or completed within 30 days of being hired. First Aid and CPR training. Job Condition and Environment Frequently required to board tugs, barges, and ships, at dock or at anchor at all hours. Perform related duties as assigned by the Port Engineer or General Manager.
