Job Description
Chevron Products Company is accepting online applications for the position of Crane Operator/Rigger located in the El Segundo, California Refinery through January 14, 2022, at 11:59 pm (Pacific Time Zone). A Refinery Crane Operator operates cranes to assist other crafts, both Chevron and Contractor in the Maintenance organization execute repair and construction work in the refinery. Crane operator duties will include operating both fixed and swing cab cranes, driving trucks both on and off Chevron property, operating forklifts, and other vehicles, rigging, and working in fresh air, confined space, and high temperature work environments. This position works with other Maintenance crafts, Reliability, Operations and Technical groups daily. As a 24/7 operating refinery, working overtime, weekend, holiday, and odd shift work is required. A Refinery Rigger supports crane activities and will perform a variety of crane operation and rigging work in the Maintenance organization executing repair, and construction work in the refinery. Rigger duties include rigging for both Chevron and Contractor lifts, bull rigging, jack and rolls, operating forklifts, working in fresh air, confined space, and high temperature work environments. This position works with other Maintenance crafts, Reliability, Operations and Technical groups daily. Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to: Performs troubleshooting, preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance activities on equipment Operates swing and fixed cab cranes of various makes and models Maintains rigging inventory and storage facility Performs regular rigging inspections on pre-determined frequencies Performs regular pre-use safety inspections on equipment Performs crane lubrication and maintenance Assist in safe crane jib set-up Performs bull rigging of hard-to-reach equipment Performs jack and rolls Operates Tractor Trailers Operates forklifts Read, understand, and follow Chevron lift plans Follows Chevrons work permitting system Works in Process Plant, Shop and Off-Plot environments Ability to work independently or as part of a team and has ability to plan and organize own work Responsible for the safe and economic use of resources Looks for and acts on opportunities to increase efficiency and reduce costs Ability to grasp complex issues and apply good problem-solving skills to develop recommendations and solutions Build positive working relationships with operators and other crafts, both internally and externally to Chevron. Ability to communicate across all levels of the organization including Management, Technical, Operations, and Maintenance This position requires driving on a routine basis Ability to work independently with little supervision and take initiative to address deficiencies and malfunctions of the equipment in their assigned area Required Qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalent Valid Driver's License Must have minimum 3 Years’ experience as a Certified crane operator in both swing and fixed cab (NCCCO or equivalent) OR minimum 3 Years’ experience as a Certified Rigger (NCCER or equivalent) Must have strong team and verbal and written communications skills Must be able to use computers to enter work histories and perform corporate compliance activities The position will typically work a 4x10 dayshift work schedule. Typical shifts are Monday through Thursday or Tuesday through Friday but can vary based on work needs. This position works with other Maintenance crafts, Reliability, Operations and Technical groups daily. As a 24/7 operating refinery, working overtime, weekend, holiday, and odd shift work is required. A Refinery Rigger supports crane activities and will perform a variety of crane operation and rigging work in the Maintenance organization executing repair, and construction work in the refinery. Rigger duties include rigging for both Chevron and Contractor lifts, bull rigging, jack and rolls, operating forklifts, working in fresh air, confined space, and high temperature work environments. This position works with other Maintenance crafts, Reliability, Operations and Technical groups daily. As a 24/7 operating refinery, working overtime, weekend, holiday, and odd shift work is required. Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to: Performs troubleshooting, preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance activities on equipment Operates swing and fixed cab cranes of various makes and models Maintains rigging inventory and storage facility Performs regular rigging inspections on pre-determined frequencies Performs regular pre-use safety inspections on equipment Performs crane lubrication and maintenance Assist in safe crane jib set-up Performs bull rigging of hard-to-reach equipment Performs jack and rolls Operates Tractor Trailers Operates forklifts Read, understand, and follow Chevron lift plans Follows Chevrons work permitting system Works in Process Plant, Shop and Off-Plot environments Ability to work independently or as part of a team and has ability to plan and organize own work Responsible for the safe and economic use of resources Looks for and acts on opportunities to increase efficiency and reduce costs Ability to grasp complex issues and apply good problem-solving skills to develop recommendations and solutions Build positive working relationships with operators and other crafts, both internally and externally to Chevron. Ability to communicate across all levels of the organization including Management, Technical, Operations, and Maintenance This position requires driving on a routine basis Ability to work independently with little supervision and take initiative to address deficiencies and malfunctions of the equipment in their assigned area Required Qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalent Valid Driver's License Must have minimum 3 Years’ experience as a Certified crane operator in both swing and fixed cab (NCCCO or equivalent) OR minimum 3 Years’ experience as a Certified Rigger (NCCER or equivalent) Must have strong team and verbal and written communications skills Must be able to use computers to enter work histories and perform corporate compliance activities The position will typically work a 4x10 dayshift work schedule. Typical shifts are Monday through Thursday or Tuesday through Friday but can vary based on work needs. Chevron's tests are focused on industrial aptitudes. However, Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) test preparation guides may be helpful in preparation for these tests. Candidates should focus on mechanical aptitude, reading comprehension, understanding information in tables and graphs, and understanding industrial math. 2. Craft Specific Aptitude Assessment Confirms the extent to which candidates possess specific job-related knowledge to crane operation and/or rigging. 3. Hands on Skill Assessment Measures the demonstrated abilities and knowledge of crane operation and/or rigging activities that support crane operation.
