Job Description
The Oiler works under the direction of the Engineering Watch Officer. His/her basic duties include monitoring, operation, and performing maintenance and repair of rig main engines and auxiliary systems. Implement and uphold safety and environmental compliance requirements. Duties also include performing general housekeeping duties and painting/preservation in the engineering spaces. He/she will also assist the Engineering Watch Officer or Mechanic in routine maintenance and repair of rig drilling, auxiliary, and support systems to meet operational requirements as directed. QUALIFICATIONS • High school diploma or equivalent • Must hold a QMED/Oiler Endorsement OR higher for the flag state of the vessel • 1 year of experience working in an engine room • Must have experience working on large scale diesel engines • Good safety record from past operations • Familiar with HSE practices common to the industry and the company • Familiar with application of the HSE Management System and continuous improvement • Completion of all training requirements for previous position ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS • Assist in ensuring that repairs and projects are finished within the scheduled time of completion in order to keep a backlog of work to a minimum. • Assist in ensuring that equipment failure is kept to a minimum and within contractual limits. • Maintain good two-way communication with crew members. • Assist to ensure entries on permits, isolation tags and logs accurately reflect the current status of equipment. • Participate in the development of newly appointed team members. • Participate in company approved and recommended training as required both on and offshore. • Ensure compliance with Noble’s HSE Management System thus allowing for safe, efficient operations. • Must complete orientation process and be familiar with all company safety policies and procedures as outlined in the safety handbook. • Safely and efficiently perform all duties assigned by the Engineering Watch Officer OR Chief Engineer, as applicable • Ensure the engineering spaces are kept clean and all equipment/tools are stowed properly. • Attend and participate in pre-tour, post tour and special operations and weekly safety meetings. • Ensure all maintenance operations proceed in a safe manner. • Responsible for correcting or notifying supervisors of any unsafe acts and/or conditions which exist. • Perform preventative maintenance in accordance with the preventative maintenance program under the direction of the Chief Engineer or designee. • Maintain the engine room daily operating logs. • Perform general maintenance around the engineering spaces; keeping motor room and machinery spaces clean and painted. • Assist the Engineering Watch Officer in maintaining all rig power generating equipment and drives and all air, fuel, water, cooling and heating systems. • Report on parts, tools and supplies needed to maintain the equipment for which one is responsible. • Assist other crew members as needed directed by the Chief Engineer or as requested by the Rig Maintenance Supervisor, Driller, or Rig Manager.
