Mare Island Dry Dock is hiring experienced Ship Superintendents with expertise in ship contract repair management. Great compensation and benefits! Fulltime nonunion supervisory/project management position. Job Summary Ensures MIDD shipyard’s planned and break-down maintenance work is carried out timely, without delay and with high quality standard. This includes the (break down) maintenance of yard high, medium and low voltage systems, all piping infrastructure, all shop machinery, compressor houses, all buildings & roads, domestic systems, sewage treatment plant, grit processing plant, sludge processing plant, dry-docks, slipways and related equipment, pump houses, vehicles, fleet of tugboats and all yard mobile equipment (fans, welding equipment, mobile cranes etc.,) Develop MIDD’s shipyard planned maintenance system by adding more scheduled maintenance on the basis of breakdown records and investigation. Bring innovative new and smarter ways of mechanical and/or electrical maintenance as necessary for improved system efficiencies such as recommend upgrades and maintain the general cleanliness and appearance of the shipyard maintenance. Qualifications & Experience BSc Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering. - More than 10 years’ experience in Mechanical Maintenance leadership positions in either shipyards, heavy industries or on board large vessels. Vast experience in the maintenance of rail mounted luffing type cranes, air compressors and infrastructural systems of plants Required Skills · Expertise in Management, Mechanical, and Electrical · Safety minded attitude · Planning & organizing of daily and monthly work tasks · High level of leadership, Managerial skills, problem solving and fast decision making ability · Proactive attitude · Self-motivated & Self Starter · Time Management · High ethical standards · Ability to perform under high pressure. · Excellent interpersonal and emphatic skills · Strong communication skills both verbal and written · Ability to create performing teams · Ability to delegate Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions) Overall responsible for maintenance carried out by personnel under direct control and ensures that all equipment, tools, plants and transport means are well maintained. Holds daily meetings with Foreman and Supervisors to check the progress of work and to provide technical advice and job priorities. Attends the Production meeting to provide information on the up-to-date situation regarding condition of vital shipyard equipment. Conducts visits/inspects workshops, departments, pump houses, and equipment to check progress of maintenance works and general condition of equipment and give technical advice. Develops and pro-actively seeks management approval for all revisions in maintenance policies used for the different types of equipment. Directly responsible for the planning and implementation of preventive maintenance schemes and breakdown maintenance of all Yard equipment, infrastructure and including graving dock, floating docks, cranes and any necessary maritime fleet as applicable. To develop and implement cost saving ideas. To control, monitor and maintain the budget allocated for yard maintenance. To ensure an acceptable standard of Quality, Environmental, OHSAS and Security Management System is maintained in accordance with recognized working practices and the MIDDs QMS Manual and Policy. Working Conditions Ability to drive or travel to locations, physically observe operations, stand, walk, climb, talk, listen and actively participate in communicating effectively with employees, customers and public. Use hands to reach, grasp, handle or feel. Able to walk on ships and in ship areas. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds. Normal working hours from 7am-3:30pm but may be required to answer customer service calls during evening, weekend, and holiday hours. Work sometimes takes place in wiring closets (small confined spaces), shipboard operations room (noisy environment), climbing ladder wells aboard ship and carrying equipment on and off vessels.
