The DDE is also responsible for fueling operations, pollution control, logs and record keeping. Depending on the vessel, the DDE may act as Chief Engineer or the engineer in charge of a watch in a periodically unmanned engine room. Must be a union member in good standing, or join union within 30 days of employment Qualifications Possess and maintain US Coast Guard Merchant Mariners Credential (MMC) Valid USCG Medical Certificate Must possess a valid USCG National Designated Duty Engineer License (1000 HP). Must possess valid STCW-III/3 endorsement. Valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC). A minimum of 1 year of operational experience with working on deck of a tugboat. Valid state driver’s license. Valid U.S. Passport and able to travel internationally, including Canada, without restrictions Able to work weekends, holidays, and at night Must be a current member of the Union, or able to join the Union upon hire Completion of a pre-employment physical and drug test, or proof of approved CG-719k or DOT Drug Testing Program letter within the last six month. Essential Functions Vessel Maintenance Performs general duties including but not limited to wiping oil, maintaining tools, changing filters, preparing and painting machinery, equipment, and related spaces Lubricates moving parts of propulsion engines and auxiliary equipment, cleans strainers, filters, and centrifuges Inspects, monitors, and checks system parameters of all auxiliary systems and machinery. Checks operating procedures, temperatures, flow and level indicators Safety Take appropriate action to correct any unusual or unsafe conditions Report Near Miss Hazard Observations Conduct and log Job Safety Analysis (JSA’s) Participate in incident investigation Carry out all required drills.
