Description About the Opportunity: The Assistant Engineer, holding a DDE 4000 HP Motor license, operates and maintains engines and mechanical equipment such as, heaters, motors, and pumps, to provide power and utilities such as propulsion, light, heat, and power for the vessel. Equipment may vary per vessel. The Assistant Engineer will run the engine room on night shift (subject to change based on business need). Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Stand fire room watch during specified periods. Stand watch during specified periods, observing all equipment and engine room mechanics, depending on vessel Oversee fuel loading and transfers Supervise night engine crew while reading meters and gauges or automatic recording devices at specified intervals to verify operating conditions Record data such as temperature of equipment, hours of operation, fuel consumed, pressure, and water levels. Adjust manual controls or override automatic controls to bring equipment into recommended or prescribed operating ranges; switch to back-up equipment or systems, or to shut down equipment Visually inspect equipment at periodic intervals to detect malfunctions or need for repair, adjustment, or lubrication Repair machinery using hand and/or power tools. Ensure that all plating and buffets are well presented Knowledgeable of all fire, safety, and emergency procedures Actively participates in embarking duties such as loading, unloading, luggage carrying, etc., as needed Performs other duties if required since above stated describe only a regular working day and may not be inclusive of every task needed to achieve results Participate and ensure participation of all USCG mandated drills and emergency procedures as directed Requirements & Qualifications: Education: HS Diploma or Equivalent Required Professional Certification(s) or License: USCG License as a DDE 4000 HP Motors Valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) – if applicable, and/or ability to obtain and maintain Valid Driver’s License Valid MMC Copy of DD214, if Veteran status Skills & Abilities: Excellent verbal and written communications skills Ability to interact with individuals at all levels in a pleasant and professional manner Experience: Two years of experience required (directly related to the duties and responsibilities of this position) Cruise industry experience preferred Physical: Must submit to and pass mandated USCG physical Ability to meet and maintain the maximum onboard bunk bed capacity of 300 lbs. Ability to conduct work in a marine environment that is subject to some/all the following: confined spaces, uneven surfaces, variations in temperature, wake, and motion Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. Ability to climb stairs and ladders Other: Must be at least 21 years of age. Submit to and pass alcohol and drug tests as mandated by the USCG including but not limited to pre-employment, random, reasonable suspicion, and post-accident/incident testing.
