THIS ROLE: The Marine Operations Manager will work directly with the Marine Transportation team on the oversight and management of all vessel related activities and overall operations. This position is responsible for managing vessel crews in collaboration with other Marine Transportation personnel. WHAT YOU’LL DO: Oversight management of all vessel-related activities and operations Act as project manager from bid award to completion on Marine Transportation jobs working with customers, crews, agents, vendors, etc. This includes creating voyage plans, project submittals, ENOA/D’s, etc. Know and understand the overall status of the fleet at all times; the “who, what, where, when, how, why” of the vessels Develop an intimate knowledge of our equipment and operations for quality control purposes and to serve as a resource for crews and other Curtin staff. Respond to operational “fire drills” Create and maintain project scheduling for short- and long-term projects Lead and develop the assigned shoreside operations team Manage all vessel crews Strategically create crew schedules for projects accounting for individuals’ strengths/weaknesses to turn out well rounded crews for all operations, in compliance with USCG COI’s. Assist in the tracking of credentials and mentor crews on licensing and career path. Conduct performance evaluations and establish continual improvement goals. Maintain fleetwide compliance with regulatory bodies, Curtin’s SMS, and Curtin standards. Assist HSSE Department in the maintenance and compliance of shipboard equipment including fire systems, extinguishers, pyrotechnics, lifesaving equipment, etc. Assist Engineering and HSSE Department with the maintenance and compliance of all vessel certificates, loadlines, COI’s etc. Assist HSSE Department with vessel audits and creation and completion of corrective actions. Continually improve the SMS with the support of the HSSE Department Support and participate in the development and implementation of company training programs Assist in the drafting and development of content for training programs Participate in and lead training seminars Maintain Vessel Management System, Helm Connect Ensure crew participation and accuracy in submittals to VMS Maintain accurate and relevant templates. Review/approve requisitions relating to the fleet Enhance and refine the VMS continually to increase efficiency Assist in recruiting and hiring of crews Review resumes and participate in interviews Assist in onboarding process, ensuring PPE issued as needed. Participate in the development of strategic recruiting pipelines Able to travel and be away from home for extended periods of time Projects may require remote operations for extended periods of time. WHO YOU ARE: Certifications and Other Requirements Greater than 7 years of experience sailing as a Master or Mate. Graduation from a Maritime Academy as a licensed officer can substitute 2 years of this requirement. Greater than 5 years of shoreside marine operations experience in the capacity of Port Captain or similar Preferred applicants will have minimum 10 years sailing as tugboat captain with experience in ocean towing and/or salvage. Preferred applicants will have experience conducting marine related projects in a critical role.
