Job Description
– The Assistant Port Captain position is based out of Cranford, NJ supporting the Weeks Marine Towing Division. The individual will be working both in the office and in the field with the ability to work both autonomously and/or with WMI Division representatives as required. Essential Job Functions · Assists the Sr. Port Captain with daily operational management of all towing vessels. · Performs annual audits on Towing vessels to ensure full compliance with the Weeks Marine Towing Safety Management System and current USCG Sub M regulations. · Completes and reviews vessel non-conformities with the Sr. Port Captain for corrective action planning, lessons learned, and root cause analysis as required. · Assists with implementation of USCG Subchapter M on WMI Towing vessels to meet mandated timeline for implementation. · Reviews USCG 2692 reporting as needed. · Assists the Sr. Port Captain with WMI Safety, Compliance and Regulatory requirements for implementation aboard all Towing vessels · Assists the Sr. Port Captain and Sr. Port Engineer with preventative maintenance program for Towing fleet. · Works a shared / rotational schedule with both the Sr. Port Captain and Dispatcher to cover Towing’s after hours on-call duty. · Travel required to various WMI jobsites and Towing vessels. · Become proficient with Sinex program to provide vessel support as needed. · Operate on a towing vessel as Captain in an emergency / as needed basis. Requirements · BS from a Maritime Academy OR · Seven (7) years of experience in an equivalent position with at least four (4) years serving onboard a tug. Special Skills · Working knowledge of USCG Code of Federal Regulations · Working knowledge of AWO Responsible Carrier Program – ISO 9001 / 14001, ISM, and USCG Subchapter M · Working knowledge on internal and external vessel audits · Working knowledge of Microsoft Office program including Outlook, Word, and Excel · Working knowledge of tug and barge operations including but not limited to general towing, marine construction and dredging ops.
